Child safety standards
FarAway is for adults. Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is not allowed anywhere on FarAway, and we act on every report of it.
What is not allowed
- Child sexual abuse material Any photo, video, drawing or text that shows or sexualises someone under 18, whether real, drawn or generated.
- Grooming Befriending a child, or someone you believe is a child, in order to abuse or exploit them.
- Sextortion Asking for sexual images of a child, or threatening to share images to get more, or money.
- Trafficking Offering, seeking or advertising a child for sex or for money.
- Sexual talk about children Sexual comments about children, or asking anyone for images of a child.
- Anyone under 18 FarAway is for people 18 and over. An account that belongs to someone younger is suspended.
How we keep children off FarAway
- Everyone gives their date of birth when they sign up, and nobody under 18 can make an account.
- Every account is verified by phone, one per person, and a suspended number can't be used to sign up again.
- With someone new, photos in chat unlock only once you have both written a few messages, and they disappear after 24 hours.
- The Lounge doesn't allow phone numbers, links or social handles.
How to report it
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
- In the app: report the person from your chat, their profile, their status or a Lounge post, and choose Involves someone under 18.
- On the web, with or without an account: use our report page and choose Child sexual abuse or exploitation. You don't have to give your name or email.
What we do
A person reviews every report, and reports about children go first. When we find child sexual abuse or exploitation, we remove it, suspend the account, and keep the evidence for as long as the law requires. We report child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or to the relevant authority in the country concerned, and we work with law enforcement when they ask.
