Meeting someone in person
Before you meet
- Get to know them in the chat first. There’s no rush.
- Meet in a busy public place, in daylight if you can.
- Tell a friend who you’re meeting, where and when, and check in after.
- Get there and back on your own. Don’t accept a lift from someone you’ve just met.
- Keep your phone charged, and keep your drink with you.
Meeting while you travel
- Know the local emergency number and your embassy’s contact details.
- Don’t share where you’re staying until you trust someone.
- Book your own accommodation, and check it’s real before you pay.
We don’t screen the people you meet
Profiles aren’t background-checked. Trust what people do, not what they say about themselves.
Scams
Never send money
Never send money, crypto, gift cards or codes to someone you met here, whatever the story: an emergency, a missed flight, a customs fee, an investment. Be wary of anyone who:
- asks for money or for your bank details;
- quickly wants to move to another app;
- has reasons they can never video-call;
- tells you about an opportunity that’s too good to be true.
FarAway will never ask for your sign-in code
Anyone asking for it is trying to take your account. Report them.
What others can see about you
Your location
Never exact. Matches see the distance between you. Friends see you on their map at about a kilometre’s accuracy, if you share your location. Turn it off in your phone’s settings at any time.
Your photos
The location your phone saves in a photo is removed before it’s stored.
The Globe
Cities only show rounded counts, once several people are there, and never who.
Online and last seen
Friends see them unless you turn them off in Settings → Privacy & Security. Skyclub’s invisible mode hides both.
Your age
Shown on your profile. Your date of birth never is.
Your trips
Private until you make one visible, and even then only the month shows.
Blocking and reporting
How do I block someone?
Open the menu in the chat’s header, or on their profile, and tap Block. They can’t reach you, and you won’t be matched again. The conversation stays, in case you report them. Unblock from the Blocked list in the Friends tab.
How do I report someone?
From the same menus, from their status, or from a Lounge post’s or reply’s menu. Choose a reason: spam, harassment, inappropriate content, a fake profile, someone under 18, or something else. Reports are anonymous.
What happens after I report?
A person reviews every report, and can suspend the account for a while or for good. A suspended person is told why. If several people report the same account, it’s suspended automatically while we look.
Someone seems to be under 18
FarAway is for adults only. Report them and choose Involves someone under 18. See our child safety standards at flyfaraway.app/child-safety.
Community rules
The rules everyone agrees to
Everyone agrees to these before their first take-off:
- Ask before things get personal. No flirting unless it’s welcome.
- Don’t pressure anyone for photos, contacts or social handles.
- No sexual or abusive messages.
- No bullying, racism or hate.
- No spam, ads, or promoting other apps.
- Never send money to someone you meet here.
Breaking them can end your account.
Keeping your account safe
Protect your account
- Never share your sign-in code, not even with someone who says they’re from FarAway.
- Add and confirm an email, so you can always get back in.
- Set a password in Settings → Privacy & Security if you’d like one.
I lost my phone
Sign in on your new one. An account is signed in on one phone at a time, so the lost one is signed out. If you have a password, change it too: that also stops the lost phone signing back in with a tap.
In an emergency
If you’re in danger
FarAway isn’t an emergency service. Call the local emergency number (112 in most of the world, 911 in North America). Then report the person in the app, so we can act too.
